A former lifter of mine just got an internship at a major university and was appalled at the lifting form demonstrated and "coached" when he got in the weight room. I can't imagine how many injuries might be related to what goes on in these college weightrooms.
I will say this in the defense of the strength/conditioning coaches(although anybody can dial up utube/olympic lifting). If any of these guys have spent any time with an olympic lifting coach, that would be accidental. There's nothing in the largest certifying body for these guys that requires or even suggests that. And, frankly, with the general description of olympic lifting that they get in text books or at national seminars I've witnessed, I can understand how these horror stories from football weightrooms come about.
It's like the joke that's passed on through thirty people. By the time it gets to the last one, it no longer resembles the joke that started. Now, throw in the mix that the comedian telling the original joke wasn't very good to begin with and you start to see the problem with most strength/conditioning coaches.
