Default Anybody here competitive in both strongman and weightlifting?

I'm pretty new to the weightlifting thing (About 3 months now) but have been competing in strongman for a little over a year. For the last few months I have just been focusing on weightlifting (just needed a mental break from event training, etc) but strongman nationals aren't that far away (early November) and am just curious/looking at ideas for setting up my training.

Thanks

I've done strongman for the past year or two and weightlifting for a year or two before that. I haven't done a weightlifting meet in a while for a variety of money/time reasons, but plan on getting back into it relatively soon. I have always left the lifts incorporated into my training, though.

I do snatches on my medium days, C&J on my heavy days, and high-hang or power work on light days and any event days (if I have time). If I'm having issues with a particular position, like say getting my knees back during the first pull, then I'll do something like snatches with a pause at the knee on whatever day I do my snatches instead of a regular full snatch. If I'm having issues with jerks, I work them on my overhead day in addition to my C&J day. Generally the strength work I do for strongman tends to hit everything I need for Oly--posterior chain work, overhead strength, learning to generate power through the hips. My Oly work is definitely beneficial towards strongman.

If I were preparing for an Oly meet though, I would dial in my strength work to be more Oly-specific (like say using snatch-grip deads), up the volume on my full lifts, and drop or significantly reduce event training in favor of working more on Oly assistance work or the full lifts (but not eliminate it entirely).

Thanks Emily (recognize the name from Marunde board)

Yeah right now I am focusing in on an oly meet in August, and then the focus will be for strongman nationals in November. My gym training is not that much different though really. I mean my gym training stuff for strongman was basically push presses, jerks, squats and deads, although I have not done an actual deadlift in a while.

Thanks for the insight.

I am currently training for both weightlifting and strongman. I am a master's aged lifter (will be 37 this year), I will be competing in a strongman meet in 5 weeks and a weightlifting meet 2 weeks later. I have a training log in the master lifter forum you can follow and feel free to ask any questions.

Basic template is:

Tuesday
Back Squat 5/3/1
Snatch 20/20
Log Clean & Press 5/3/1
Carrys

Thursday
Clean & Jerk 20/20
Axe Deadlift 3/2/1
Incline Press 5/3/1
Carrys

Saturday
Front Squat 3/2/1
Snatch max
Clean & Jerk max
Tire Flips

On the days in between I either rest or do mobility/conditioning work as needed.
